  • Coloured craft paper

How to make it:

1. Cut out the flowers and leaves from our cut-out sheet.

2. Use the cut-out shapes as a template and cut out the four different flowers from coloured paper. Then outline the leaf twice from the template on green paper and cut them out. Repeat the same with the two tendrils.

You will need the following materials:

  • Craft card

  • Ruler

  • Scissors or craft knife

  • Pen or labelling machine

  • (Dried) flowers

How to make the Mother's Day card:

  1. Fold your paper in half to make a card.

  2. Draw two straight, parallel lines in the lower third of the card, about 2 to 3 cm apart.

  3. Now cut along the lines to create a flap.

  4. Write a Mother's Day greeting on the flap. You can either write it yourself with a black marker or use a labelling machine.

  5. Finally, slide the (dried) flowers through the flap.

How to embroider your own Mother's Day card:

1. Fold your paper in half to make your card.

2. Draw your embroidery pattern:

  • Start in the top third of the card. Place 4 dots on the left side, one centimetre apart. Leave a 2-cm gap and then mark 4 dots again at the same distance.

  • Measure one centimetre down from the dots and now mark 12 more dots in a straight line, one centimetre apart. Draw the dots just below the first markings. This row should have one more dot on the right and left than the first row.

  • Now draw 3 more rows with 12 dots.

  • For the sixth row, draw 10 dots (one dot less on the right and one less on the left).

  • Keep decreasing the rows (8, 6, 4 dots) and finally, the last row should have 2 dots.

3. Pierce your dots with the needle using an eraser underneath the paper.

4. Now you can start embroidering. To do this, stitch from the back into a dot on the last line. Pull your thread almost through and then stitch diagonally opposite in the penultimate line. Insert your needle into the nearest dot and stitch it again diagonally down in front to make a cross.

5. When you have connected all the dots, glue the loose ends to the back and add a nice Mother's Day saying to the front of your card.

Tip: If you have marked and pre-punched the holes, your child can do the embroidery!

1. First familiarise yourself with the crochet stitches: chain stitch, slip stitch, double crochet, half treble crochet, treble crochet, and double treble crochet. You can find instructions for the individual stitches on YouTube, for example.

2. Next, take your larger crochet hook and crochet the first flower. Crochet 4 chain stitches, Then stitch into the first chain stitch and join it with a slip stitch to make a circle. Now make the individual petals. To do this, stitch into the centre of your circle and make 4 double treble crochet stitches and 1 double crochet. Repeat five times. Finish your crochet and you have your first flower.

3. Repeat step 2 with your smaller crochet hook. You will get the same flower, but a little smaller.

4. For the leaf, crochet 8 chain stitches then slip into the penultimate stitch (7th stitch in the chain) and make 1 slip stitch. In the next stitch (6th stitch in the chain) crochet 1 double-crochet and in the next stitch (5th stitch in the chain) crochet 1 half treble-crochet. In the 4th stitch of the chain make a treble-crochet, in the next stitch make a double-treble-crochet, in the following stitch make 1 treble-crochet Crochet 4 half treble-crochets in the last stitch of the chain. Now crochet a treble-crochet in the 2nd stitch and a double-treble-crochet in the next stitch on the other side of the chain. Then crochet another double-treble-crochet, then another half treble-crochet, and in the second to last stitch, you crochet another double-crochet. Crochet another chain stitch at the top and finish your crochet.

5. When you have crocheted two leaves and two flowers, you can glue them decoratively onto your card and label the card.

Tip: Alternatively, you can just crochet the flowers and paint on the leaves. This will save you some work.
