Tip

Should you bring a gift to a christening?

Yes, it is customary to bring a gift to a christening, especially if you are invited as a godparent, family member or close friend. It doesn't have to be anything big, but a carefully selected or homemade christening gift shows your appreciation and is fitting for this type of celebration.

Baptism gift idea: a flower wreath with money butterflies

Are you looking for a unique way to wrap money for a christening to make it a memorable gift? Then this pretty flower wreath, with cute butterflies made from banknotes and a homemade guardian angel for the little one being baptised, may be just what you are looking for. This christening gift is a true eye-catcher and expresses that it's not just about the money, but also love and appreciation.

Materials for making this baptism gift

  • A metal ring with a base (e.g. 25 cm diameter)

  • Clips

  • Twisted macramé yarn in white and two other colours for hair & dress

  • Wooden angel wings

  • A wooden bead (diameter 25 mm)

  • Fresh or dried flowers

  • Wire

  • A pair of scissors & a ruler

  • A needle & a comb

  • Banknotes and a voucher if desired

How to make a money gift for a christening

1. First, make the little guardian angel. Decide which colour you want to use for the hair and which for the dress. Now cut 8 strands of each colour to a length of 20 cm.

2. Take the strands of one colour in your hand and comb them out. Repeat this with the other colour.

3. Now take a few strands of the hair colour, place them around the middle of the large strand and tie a double knot. Thread the ends onto a needle and pull the thread through the wooden bead.

4. Now, put the needle aside. Take the combed-out strands for the dress and place them in the centre of the wooden bead. Use the thread on which you threaded the wooden bead again and tie another double knot in order to attach the body to the head.

5. Cut two 20 cm strands of white macramé yarn. Centre both strands over your last double knot. The strands for the hair and dress should run horizontally, the white strands for the arms and legs vertically. Place the wings vertically in the same place and tie another double knot with matching thread.

6. Pick the angel up and arrange the hair so that it falls back over the wooden bead and the dress hangs over the front and back of the arms, legs and wings. Take the arms and position them to the left and right of the body.

7. Wrap a third strand of white macramé yarn around the dress directly under the wings. You can use a wrap knot for this.

8. Comb out the hair and dress again and trim both with a pair of scissors.

9. Knot the ends of the arms and legs and cut off the excess yarn.

10. Your little guardian angel is ready! To hang the angel up, put a thinner thread around its neck and pull it up through the wooden bead once more with a needle.

11. Attach your guardian angel to the wooden ring using a clip.

12. To fold butterflies out of banknotes, use our visual instructions. Attach the butterflies to the metal ring from behind with clips.

13. Tie flowers to the bottom of the ring and attach a voucher if you wish to complete your christening gift.
