C&A sustainability efforts recognised by leading environmental NGO

C&A ranks 3rd out of 80 apparel textile brands and 4th of 438 overall companies

Düsseldorf, October 31, 2019. C&A has been recognized for its leadership in environmental supply chain management by China’s most influential environmental NGO, the Institute of Public and Environmental Affairs (IPE). In this year’s Corporate Information Transparency Index (CITI), C&A ranks third out of 80 apparel and textile brands and fourth overall of 438 companies across all industries.

The annual Index ranks the supply chain practices of brands in the areas of transparency, responsiveness, compliance and corrective action, energy conservation, emissions reduction, as well as performance disclosure.

C&A’s high ranking is all the more impressive, as the IPE significantly increased the requirements for companies to demonstrate their leadership in energy efficiency and the implementation of sustainable supply chain practices this year.

C&A is also among four top-performing brands to join IPE’s Green Supply Chain Map, a tool that increases transparency and accountability by enabling brands to monitor environmental data of suppliers in real-time to improve environmental governance and reduce pollution.

“With the launch of the Green Supply Chain Map, we embrace the new ability to understand the environmental performance in real-time so that we can react and support our suppliers wet processing units to increase performance and leadership,” explained Jeffry Hogue, Chief Sustainability Officer C&A Global.

In its report, IPE also commended C&A, among other apparel and textile brands, for further increasing the accountability of facilities and suppliers by addressing compliance problems and asking for explanations regarding corrective actions to be publicly disclosed.

“C&A’s good ranking confirms that we are making progress with our efforts to implement more sustainable supply chain practises in China – but it’s also motivation to keep setting standards and moving ahead,” said Hogue.
