Fashion Transparency Index: C&A once again among leading brands

  • Non-profit organisation Fashion Revolution has reviewed 250 of the largest fashion brands and retailers

  • Ranking focuses on supply chain and approach to a range of social and environmental issues

  • C&A among leading brands with a score of 65%

Düsseldorf, 7 July 2021 – C&A has underlined its strong position in this year’s ‘Fashion Transparency Index’ published by the non-profit organisation Fashion Revolution. The fashion retailer was ranked fourth in the index, which includes the world’s 250 largest global fashion brands and retailers. To evaluate the companies’ performance, Fashion Revolution has focused on publicly disclosed information relating to the brands’ supply chain and their approach to a range of social and environmental issues. Fashion Revolution aims to encourage brands to act as transparently as possible with regard to their policies, practices and the impact of their operations.

“C&A is proud to be ranked 4th in 2021 Fashion Transparency Index. Our results in this year’s Fashion Transparency Index show us once again that we are on the right track. Fashion Revolution’s evaluation process is not just based on a few particular aspects, but rather covers a wide range of different features relevant to the industry,” said Aleix Busquets Gonzalez, C&A’s Director of Sustainability.

Fashion Revolution has been tracking the progress of global fashion brands and retailers annually since 2016, focusing on the most important disclosures for all stakeholders. With a score of 65%, C&A is once again part of the group of companies leading the ranking (ranging from 61-70%). The evaluation, conducted by industry experts, is based on five categories, in which C&A achieved the following scores: 1. Policy and Commitments (93%), 2. Governance (77%), 3. Traceability (84%), 4. Know, Show & Fix: Supplier Assessment and Remediation (51%), 5. Spotlight Issues: Conditions, Consumption, Composition and Climate (43%). In all categories of the index, C&A recorded a percentage well above the ranking’s average.

“Transparency leads to accountability. At C&A, we want to empower our customers and various stakeholders through informing them about how we support our staff and workers in the supply chain; how we protect the environment through enabling circular economy. Using a range of different digital tools and sources is crucial to providing clients and partners with information wherever and whenever they want to access it,” said Aleix Busquets Gonzalez.

As an example, C&A publishes details of all of its global suppliers' tier-1 and tier-2 factories. The list, which is updated regularly, can be found on C&A’s website, as well as the website of the Open Apparel Registry.
