C&A signs renewed ACCORD with labour unions
25 August 2021 - C&A has signed the renewed Accord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh (“Accord”) immediately after concluding negotiations. The new version comes into effect on 1 September 2021 and will extend the existing agreement for a further two years. “By re-signing this independent and legally binding agreement C&A underlines its commitment to working with labour unions and the industry to create lasting change in fire and building safety in Bangladesh”, says Martijn van der Zee, Chief Merchandise and Sourcing Officer at C&A Europe. Unions and participating companies also agreed to discuss within six months which countries the accord could be extended to. The aim is to establish it in at least one other country within two years.
In 2013, C&A was one of the first brands to sign the Bangladesh Accord for Fire and Building Safety and has played an active role in the Steering Committee since the beginning. The Accord has made great progress in raising awareness on important safety measures, empowering and involving workers and driving real change in fire and building safety in the Bangladesh garment industry.
