We believe, that caring for people and the planet is not contradictory to stylishness and affordability. That is not only true for our collections, but also for the modernization of C&A stores. The denim floor is a perfect example: It is not only an eye catcher in our store. Also, for each square meter about one kilogram of denim waste is being recycled. C&A is the first big player in the industry to use the denim floor. We are piloting the innovative solution in our new C&A store in Vienna in September 2024, followed by our store in Madrid.

Also the production of the denim floor is located in Europe: Aiming to create a more sustainable alternative to traditional flooring, the Swiss family enterprise LICO developed the new concept which focuses on natural materials, including the denim textile, cork underlay, and wood-based board. The majority of the materials are sourced in Europe and 80 % of the materials are recycled – for instance the cork underlay, which is made from leftovers of bottling cork production. The electricity for production at LICO comes from its photovoltaic plant and from a local hydropower plant. Energy for heating and production heat comes from thermal utilization of wood and cork production waste. The denim floor is EPD certified (Environmental Product Declaration) and awarded by the Blue Angel ecolabel by the German federal government. The solution won the Green Collection Award 2023.
