Details of over 2000 factories across 40 countries disclosed
Dusseldorf, Germany; Brussels, Belgium - June 30, 2017 – Global fashion retailer C&A is further increasing the transparency within its supply chain by disclosing details of over 2000 supplier factories in all its 40 sourcing countries around the globe. The list can be found in the company’s new sustainability report now available online.
“Transparency leads to more accountability and behaviour change: our priority is to ensure that the working conditions in our supply chain are upheld to our standards and the social and environmental performance continually improved. By being transparent about where our products are made, our customers and stakeholders can feel confident we are making good choices in the partners we work with and how our clothing is made,” said Jeffrey Hogue, C&A’s Global Chief Sustainability Officer.
In line with C&A’s recent commitment to the Transparency Pledge*, the company has disclosed its suppliers’ factory names and addresses, number of workers and product category of 100% of its tier-1 and tier-2 production units.**
C&A’s supply chain encompasses more than 1 million people, employed through 788 global suppliers, who run more than 2,000 production units at tier-1 and tier-2 supplier level, across four different sourcing regions. C&A took the first step to increase supply chain transparency in its 2015 report with the disclosure of names and addresses of its suppliers' tier-1 factories which are the actual locations where C&A merchandise is manufactured.
C&A’s 2016 Global Sustainability Report has been released at the same time as the C&A Foundation’s annual report. The two reports show how C&A Foundation and C&A can work shoulder to shoulder to make fashion sustainable and responsible. Transparency is a core pillar of C&A Foundation's work. The foundation supports initiatives that gather and publicly disclose information in a manner that incentivises improvements in working conditions, such as Fashion Revolution which published the 2017 Fashion Transparency Index – a review of 100 global fashion brands and retailers.

Notes to editors:
* The Transparency Pledge is an initiative of a coalition of labour and human rights groups with the objective to help the garment industry reach a common minimum standard for supply chain disclosure. For more information about the Transparency Pledge please see https://www.hrw.org/report/2017/04/20/follow-thread/need-supply-chain-transparency-garment-and-footwear-industry .
** Tier-1 factories are cut and sew production units and tier-2 factories provide printing, laundry, and embroidery services. Several of these tier-1 and tier-2 factories are fully vertically integrated and therefore also run tier-3 production such as fabric mills, spinning mills and dye houses.
