What does RDS stand for?
RDS stands for Responsible Down Standard.
What is the RDS?
The RDS is an independent, voluntary global down standard that puts high emphasis on animal welfare. It is owned by Textile Exchange and certified by Control Union as a third party. Over three years, the RDS was developed and revised with the support of animal rights groups, industry experts, brands, and retailers. The standard recognizes best practices in animal welfare.
How does C&A and our customer benefit from using RDS?
Animal welfare is a top priority for C&A and we have publicly banned the live-plucking of down and feathers for our products. The down used in our products has been sourced only from suppliers who follow the RDS certification requirements and do not practice live-plucking and forced feeding. The RDS also provides detailed requirements on issues relating to food and water quality, outdoor access, animal health, and hygiene. The standard follows the chain of custody from farm to product, so consumers can be confident that the down and feathers in the products they choose are truly RDS certified.
