What does RDS stand for?
RDS stands for Responsible Down Standard.
What is the RDS?
The RDS is an independent, voluntary global down standard that puts high emphasis on animal welfare. It is owned by Textile Exchange and certified by Control Union as a third party. Over three years, the RDS was developed and revised with the support of animal rights groups, industry experts, brands, and retailers. The standard recognizes best practices in animal welfare, and excludes companies that violate the animals' wellbeing.
How does C&A benefit from using RDS?
Animal welfare is a top priority for C&A and we have publicly banned the live-plucking of down and feathers for our products. The down used in our products has therefore been selected with care to ensure it comes from suppliers who adhere to strict animal welfare standards. This is ensured by the RDS certification. The standard also follows the chain of custody from farm to product, so consumers can be confident that the down and feathers in the products they choose are truly RDS certified.
Products can thus be labeled accurately, giving consumers the ability to make informed choices.
How do you as our customer benefit from the RDS?
At C&A we believe animals have the right to be treated with care. The Responsible Down Standard will ensure that down and feathers come from ducks and geese that have been treated well. This means enabling them to live healthy lives, express innate behaviors, and not suffer from pain, fear or distress.
Moreover, our products only contain down and feathers that come from birds primarily raised for meat production.
